Key players of the innovation model
Three players are indispensable to the innovation model: government, academia, and industry.
Government
H.E. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani seized the initiative to establish KII so that the government will drive the innovation model and determine the development areas that KII will prioritize for the next five years, which include renewable energy, electric transportation, health and life sciences, construction, and 3D printing. The government will also support innovators to even build production facilities if the invention proves a game changer.
Academia
Academia is the second most important actor in KII’s innovation model, as it gathers, disseminates, and pushes the boundaries of knowledge. KII will actively share knowledge with universities in Kurdistan, which are keenly interested in collaboration.
Industry
Manufacturing is central to the innovation model, but the manufacturing infrastructure in Kurdistan needs to be upgraded to enable cutting-edge innovations. KII will thus cooperate with international manufacturing partners, in addition to opening its own workshop to assist innovators in developing prototypes of their inventions.
